Recognition of CPD activities

Recognition of CPD activities explains how activities are assessed and accepted as part of the CPD program. It helps you understand which activities will count towards your annual CPD requirements before you undertake them.

What recognition means

When a CPD activity is recognised, it means the College has assessed the activity against defined criteria and confirmed it meets CPD Program requirements.

Recognised activities:

  • Meet expected standards of quality and relevance
  • Align with CPD categories
  • May contribute to CAPE Program-Level Requirements where applicable

Recognition provides clarity and confidence when selecting activities.

Why activities are recognised in advance

A key feature of the Recognition & Assessment Framework is that recognition occurs before an activity is undertaken.

This means you can:

  • Confirm an activity is recognised before participating
  • Understand how it will count towards your CPD
  • Plan your CPD year with greater certainty

Advance recognition reduces uncertainty and supports informed decision-making.

What types of activities can be recognised

A wide range of CPD activities may be recognised, including:

  • Educational activities
  • Reviewing performance activities
  • Measuring outcomes activities

Activities may be delivered by the College or by other providers, provided they meet recognition criteria.

How CAPE requirements are considered

Recognition also considers whether an activity aligns with CAPE Program-Level Requirements.

Activities recognised as CAPE-aligned:

  • Clearly address relevant CAPE focus areas
  • Are assessed and confirmed in advance
  • Can be used to meet mandatory CAPE requirements

This supports clear and consistent CAPE planning.

What recognition does not mean

To set clear expectations, it’s important to understand what recognition does not do.

Recognition:

  • Does not guarantee the activity suits your individual learning needs
  • Does not remove the requirement to record activities and retain evidence
  • Does not replace CPD requirements or categories

CPD participants remain responsible for planning and recording their CPD.
